CYC Positions They’re Looking to Fill and What You’ll Be Doing in Those Roles

Child and Youth Support Worker – Assists children and youth develop life skills, social skills and/or access to community resources. Provides care and guidance consistent with the individual’s needs whether those be related to mental health issues, behavioural challenges, or addictions.

Addictions Support Worker – Addictions support workers provide people struggling with drugs, eating disorders, shopping addictions, or substance abuse with help and a path towards recovery. And they are responsible for working in collaboration with program clinical partner(s) to support youth in that recovery.

Addictions Counsellor – The role of an addictions counsellor is to guide the recovering youth and help them to grow and heal according to their ability, capacity and values. They also connect them to the resources they need to live a drug-free or alcohol-free life.

Student Assistant – A student assistant is responsible for providing support services including personal care, transporting, lifting and behaviour management to students within the primary, elementary and secondary school system.

Youth Coordinator – A youth coordinator is mainly focused on developing and facilitating programs for children in various settings that enhance and support personal youth education and development.

Community Support Worker – The community support worker provides support and personal care assistance to youth and their caregivers/families to promote and maximize independence in the home, group residence or community, including assistance with daily living activities.

Family Support Worker – Family support workers assist at-risk children and youth. This may include offering counselling and mediation services, helping identify and access appropriate social services and helping families get life back on track after emotional, mental or physical crisis or distress.

Anderson College’s Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support program is 72 weeks, including 500 hours of externship with on-the-job training, offsite with potential employers. Delivered by industry-expert instructors, this program is designed to teach students the necessary practical skills and theory to work with adolescents, children and families with challenging social, emotional, behavioral and mental health concerns and needs. As a graduate you will be equipped with the knowledge and training to embrace this in-demand career and any number of positions at a variety of facilities and organizations.
