What You’ll Really Learn in an Accounting & Payroll Admin Program

You want a career that adds up … literally. You’ve heard that accounting and payroll is a stable career path, but wondering what an accounting diploma program, or what payroll training in Ontario, actually looks like … in the classroom?

At Anderson College, we go beyond theory to teach the real-world skills that today’s employers are hiring for. From bookkeeping and payroll compliance to hands-on software training and career coaching, this is education that translates directly to the workplace. Here’s how your education turns into job-ready expertise, what you’ll really learn and why it matters.

Accounting & Payroll Admin Program: Practical Classroom to Thriving Career

The Language of Business: Bookkeeping & Accounting Essentials

In every business, every industry, numbers are at the heart of success and a whiz with those financials is essential; this could be you. Your educational adventure begins with learning how money flows in and out of a company, and how to track and report it with accuracy.

You’ll learn to:

  • Record journal entries and build ledgers
  • Reconcile accounts, manage payables and receivables
  • Assist in budget preparation and financial reporting.

This foundation prepares you for roles like accounts clerk, bookkeeper, or junior accountant, where attention to detail and financial know-how matter.

Payroll Confidence with a Path to Certification

Payroll might sound straightforward, but it’s a responsibility that demands precision and compliance.

At Anderson, you’ll gain deep, hands-on knowledge of:

  • Payroll legislation and employment standards
  • Tax deductions, CPP/EI contributions, ROEs and T4s
  • Processing pay runs with both accuracy and integrity.

To give you credibility upon graduation, this is a payroll course with certification; it includes Payroll Compliance training aligned with the National Payroll Institute (NPI). You’ll be eligible to pursue the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, a sought-after credential across Canada. And … designation exam fees are included in the total fees!

Fluency in Financial Software (Before Day One on the Job)

Software is the conduit for delivering your financial expertise and you’ll learn and train on the same tools that businesses use every day. Looking for a QuickBooks course in Ontario? The program includes it. Learn:

  • QuickBooks
  • Sage
  • Microsoft Excel – Level I & II
  • Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook

With this in-depth, hands-on, practical training, there’s no extra onboarding for employers, you’re ready to hit the ground running, and this gives you the edge when applying for jobs.

Communication, Professionalism & Workplace Readiness

To truly succeed in the short- and long-term, your ability to engage and collaborate with others is essential. You’ll need to communicate clearly, manage deadlines, and work closely and professionally with other departments; Anderson prepares you to do exactly that.

Through courses like Business Communications, Communication Essentials, and Employment Achievement Strategies, you’ll practice both technical and “soft skills” to thrive on the job:

  • Writing effective business emails and reports
  • Office etiquette and presenting professionally
  • Managing your time and working well in teams.

From small businesses to corporate offices, your ability to understand the nuances of communication and present yourself dynamically will go a long way to setting the course of your career, as you begin and as you evolve and grow into advanced positions.

From Classroom to Career … With Support Along the Way

Anderson’s commitment doesn’t end at graduation. Throughout the program, you’ll receive career coaching that includes:

  • Resume and cover letter writing
  • Mock interviews and job search support
  • Access to Anderson job fairs and career services … for life.

Whether you’re starting fresh, upgrading your skills, or switching careers, you’ll leave the program not only with a diploma but with the confidence to apply it to build a future you can be proud of.

We aim to pave the way for you to pursue myriad jobs after an accounting and payroll course.
