Taylor-Lynn’s Transformation: Finding Purpose in Child and Youth Care

In celebration of our convocation 2023, and the opportunity for us to finally be together and celebrate in person after three years, we asked our graduates to share their Anderson College experience.
Asking, “How has Anderson College changed your life?” prompted over a hundred submissions … this is one of those extraordinary student stories.
We hope this reflection moves you, as it has our Anderson family, and inspires you to ever embrace the career and life you imagine and, truly, deserve.

My name is Taylor-Lynn. I graduated with honours from the Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program at Anderson College in Brantford, Ontario in 2022.
“The Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program taught me the knowledge and skills to use in my dream job and personal life and to reach my desired career goals.”
My career goals for registering with Anderson College were to discover a program to support individuals with mental illness and addiction struggles, make a difference in local communities, and assist children and youth in need. The Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program taught me the knowledge and skills to use in my dream job and personal life and to reach my desired career goals.
Casey Blackmore taught the program and was a tremendous role model for her students. With a busy schedule, she was able to turn the program around for the better and make a positive impact in her students’ lives. Connie and Brenda work in the front office of the college. These ladies are determined to ensure their students follow the steps to succeed in their program and are on the ball when assisting with documentation to graduate.
“With the help from Anderson College, I have learned that nothing is a race and that the easiest path to success is accepting help from others.”
While taking this course, I moved away from home with a man who was very abusive and worked 58 hours a week. During this exhausting time, the teacher would stay after class and assist with school assignments. The ladies in the office even took care of documentation and school paperwork.
I did my externship at Rosewood House, a local homeless shelter in Ontario. This job has a very supportive team of employees and management who are determined to keep the employees safe and teach beneficial tips in social work every day.
With the help from Anderson College, I have learned that nothing is a race and that the easiest path to success is accepting help from others. I could not be more thankful for Anderson College.
