Anderson’s Medical Lab Tech Program Receives Accreditation – Boosting Credibility for Graduates

In Anderson College’s commitment to ensure students are in demand upon graduation, it continually evaluates needs within industries and communities and selects and develops programs to meet those pressing needs.
To ensure graduates are highly skilled and confident and have the competitive edge as they apply for positions, curriculum is developed with superior standards in mind. Receiving accreditation status for a program is a testament to that commitment, demonstrates the extreme quality of Anderson’s medical laboratory technologist program and gives graduates the advantage they need to succeed.
On July 24th Anderson announced that its Medical Laboratory Technology-Hybrid (MLT-H), (in addition to two other of its healthcare programs) earned ‘accreditation with condition’ status with Accreditation Canada’s EQual program. As a new program, ‘accreditation with condition’ is the highest status that a program can receive.
“Students who dedicate their time and invest in education, to advance their careers and better their lives, deserve the best from us,” shared Heather Yang, Anderson’s CEO. “As such, we’re committed to adhering to the highest standards, in curriculum development and delivery by consulting industry leaders, hiring expert faculty and providing practical hands-on training, to ensure our graduates can succeed in their chosen professions.”
Roman Savka, Director of Health Education Accreditation at Accreditation Canada/ Equal, also had this to say; “We congratulate Anderson College on achieving EQual accreditation, a testament to their strong commitment to academic excellence, rigorous standards, and continuous quality improvement. We are proud to be a part of Anderson College’s pursuit to provide skilled graduates for the Canadian healthcare sector.”
Why Are Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) Essential and Why Do We Need YOU?
- It is no secret that the healthcare industry has taken a massive hit since COVID-19. The pandemic brought to the fore the essential nature of medical laboratory positions, the shortages that already existed and the dire need for filling this increasing void with qualified professionals.
- With 70% of all medical decisions relying on lab results, an increase in testing demand, and a projection of 42% of current MLT professionals looking to retire, there is an unprecedented opportunity for those looking to train at medical laboratory technologist schools.
- “The main issue right now is that MLTs are overworked and they’re stressed,” says Michelle Hoad, Chief Executive Officer of The Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO). “Ontario urgently needs medical laboratory technologists.” (*Full quote here)
- “As the industry is facing shortages in all areas, Anderson’s MLT program is pivotal for Canadian medical laboratories,” said Christine Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer of The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS). “We applaud Anderson College for … contributing to the future of the medical laboratory profession.” (*Full quote here)
What Does This Mean for You?
This unprecedented shortage means an extraordinary opportunity for students looking to take their careers to new levels and enter the healthcare industry.
Anderson College’s MLT-H program is based on the national competency profile issued by CSMLS. It is two years, full time and fast paced. It’s designed to train students to become skilled in applying the scientific, technical, and medical principles needed to perform and evaluate laboratory testing in a healthcare setting and prepare them for challenging the national CSMLS certification exams. Graduates who complete our medical technologist courses will be ready for entry-level positions in clinical laboratories, research labs or scientific supply companies.
In addition to the MLT-H program, Anderson also offers a Bridging Program for Internationally Trained Medical Laboratory Technologists and other varied training programs for Medical Laboratory Technicians/Assistants. All of these dynamic programs deliver hundreds of qualified graduates to serve in healthcare. Our team is poised to empower you too, to join the ranks of those taking their career and life to new levels by contributing to the real and present needs of patients and their families.
