Short Story 1 – The Perfect Portrait
Once there lived a brave King. He fought many battles and won many of them. Unfortunately, in one of the most important battles for his country, he was badly wounded. The King lived to relish the victory of the battle but lost an eye and a leg.
One day the King saw the paintings of some brave Kings from the past. “I should have one for myself too, then I will be remembered for my bravery for years to come,” thought the King. He called for all the great painters in the country and asked them to paint a beautiful portrait of him.
“Who will paint my portrait?”, asked the King, but none of the painters dared to accept the task of painting the king’s portrait. They couldn’t think of any way they could make the King look beautiful. A bad painting would make the King angry and none of them wanted to suffer his wrath.
But one courageous painter agreed to take the challenge of drawing the King’s portrait. He drew a beautiful classic picture of the King. It was a fantastic piece of art. Everyone was surprised how beautifully he presented the King in the portrait.
He painted the King aiming for a hunt with an eye closed and a leg bent.
How beautiful the world will look if we could ignore others people’s weakness and celebrate their strengths.
Short Story 2 – The Ant and the Dove
One day an ant came to the bank of a river to drink water. The river current was higher than usual that afternoon and the ant suddenly slipped and fell into the water. The ant feared for its life as was being swept away by the stream.
Thankfully, a kind dove saw the struggling ant from up above. The dove dropped a leaf into the water so that the ant could climb into it. The dove then carefully pulled the leaf from the stream and placed it onto the shore. The ant’s life was saved by the kind dove.
A few days later, a fierce hunter came to the forest. The hunter saw the beautiful dove sitting on a tree branch and began to take aim to shoot the dove with his arrow. The ant, which had been saved by the kindness of the dove just days earlier, saw the hunter aiming at the kind dove. Before the hunter could release his arrow, the ant bit the hunter on the foot. The hunter shouted due to the pain from the ant’s bite. The dove was alerted to the danger he was in by the noise created by the hunter and quickly flew to a safe place.
The moral of the story, every good deed we do for others will come back to us in some way.
