Our Team is Always Here to Help! – Anderson Connect

We’re three months into the new year and may be wondering where that “spring” of ours is. Just like this crazy weather we’re experiencing, in relation to life, at any point we can focus on what doesn’t seem to be working quite right, or we can hone in on what is.

No matter the chill outside, the pressure you feel at times or how tired you are from juggling all those balls-of-responsibility, your determination will pay off – spring and summer will come. But you’re not alone on your Anderson journey. Your fellow students and our whole team are here for you when you need support, a nudge, a hand, a cheer, as you climb the journey to the summit and that amazing view you’ve earned.

This month’s Anderson Connect is to remind you of the team you have to help you on your way, how working together makes everything better … even warmer, we dare say.

Today’s read is approximately 3 minutes.

A Thought to Ponder

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” Helen Keller

Everyday you face myriad challenges, opportunities to stretch and evolve, as a student, as a person, as a professional in your respective field. You, all your efforts, have tremendous value. But add your value to the value of another, and another, helping, lifting, uplifting one another, now that is power. Coming together with a common goal and a shared positive spirit, well in that, there is truly little we cannot do.

A Short Story to Inspire

Stick Together
– Anonymous

There was an old man living with his three sons in a village. All his sons were hardworking, but they quarrelled all the time. Their father did his best to unite them but failed time and again, and it got to a point that, to ease some of the uncomfortable tension they caused, the villagers made fun of his sons’ constant fighting.

As time passed, the old man got sick. He told all his sons to get along with each other, but they didn’t seem to hear his words. Because of this, the old man decided to teach them a practical lesson.

He called all his sons to him and gave them each a bundle of sticks. He told them to separate each stick and break them into two pieces. The one who could quickly break the sticks would be given the greatest reward. All the sons agreed to the conditions.

Once they were done breaking each of the ten stick in their respective bundles into pieces, they started arguing again about who finished first. The father interrupted and told them that the game was not yet over. He gave them another bundle of sticks, but this time they’d have to break the sticks while in one solid bundle, not separately.

His sons agreed but failed to do the task even though they each put forward their best effort. The old man told his sons that the sticks, singular or in group, are like the relationships between people. A single stick can be snapped easily, but together they’re nearly impossible to break. People on their own can be weakened, harmed, even defeated, but united you are stronger, defensible, maybe even unbeatable.

The three sons understood their lesson. They promised their father that from then on, they would work together and stay together, and make him proud.

Moral of the Story

One can easily be overwhelmed, even broken by the stresses of life when he/she carries them alone. But together our burdens are lightened, we are stronger and more capable than perhaps we even knew was possible.

The Power of Teamwork

iVolunteer – Teamwork

In our individual, busy lives, we can forget to lend a hand to our fellow students, colleagues, even family members, or shy away from asking for the help we need ourselves. However, teamwork does indeed make the dream work! Together there is really no limit to what we can achieve.

To your month of encouraging those around you and asking for and welcoming the support you need.
