Medical Lab Assistant Training in Kitchener

The Medical Laboratory Assistant Technician Diploma at Anderson College is a 50-week, on-campus program that combines theory, hands-on simulation in state-of-the-art labs, 2 weeks of experiential learning simulation, and a 4-week healthcare practicum placement. The program holds EQual™ conditional accreditation, demonstrating program quality and giving graduates a competitive edge.

The curriculum covers lab safety, infection control, regulatory compliance, specimen handling and storage, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, phlebotomy techniques and blood collection, tissue and fluid specimen preparation, chain-of-custody and labelling procedures, hematology, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, microbiology, cytology, and histology basics, ECG and heart monitoring fundamentals, culture media preparation, and the use of automated and computerized lab instruments. Students also complete CPR and First Aid training as part of the program.

Small classes are led by medical laboratory expert instructors, backed by Anderson's 140+ year commitment to student success. Students receive training and support for national and provincial certifications with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and the Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO). Career services — resume building, interview preparation, and job-fair access — are available for life.
