Medical Radiography Technology

Our program is designed to give you a well-rounded education, with a mix of hands-on training and theoretical coursework. You'll learn from experienced instructors who are dedicated to your success, and you'll get to work with state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment in the partner hospitals.

Medical Radiography Technology is imaging technology used to diagnose various ailments and is the art and science of correctly positioning the patient and X-ray equipment to produce and record images for visualizing the extent of pathology (disease) or injury. It includes the use of computed tomography (CT), interventional radiology (IR), bone densitometry and mammography (breast imaging), among others.

Our Medical Radiography Technology program trains students as medical radiologic technologists, educating them in the areas of patient care, radiation safety, computerized imaging techniques, and anatomy and pathology. It is designed to ensure graduates are responsible for the safe and competent operation of a wide range of X-ray generating machines, the production of digital images, and use of accessory medical equipment.

Medical Radiography Technology was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

*This program has been “registered” for accreditation status with Accreditation Canada/EQual™.*

*“Registered” status serves as an important demonstration of our commitment to providing quality education in alignment with accreditation and regulatory requirements. “Registered” status is not an “Accreditation” status, nor does it guarantee any eventual accreditation.

Medical imaging backlogs were prevalent before COVID-19, and have now reached critical levels, threatening patient care, posing a pressing and immediate need for medical radiography technology professionals. With this, and the exponential increase, year to year, in the aging population requiring diagnostic scans to help treat injury and disease, this career holds near-limitless opportunities.

The Medical Radiography Technology program is 78 weeks, full-time program where students are trained as radiologic technologists, responsible for the safe and competent operation of a wide range of X-ray generating machines, the production of digital images, and use of accessory medical equipment. Students will complete courses in anatomy and pathology, apparatus, and image management, computed tomography, radiation protection, general and specialized radiographic techniques, professional practice, and patient care. They will also focus on specialized imaging, clinical integration, quality assurance and control, and professional practice. Additionally, students will complete three clinical placements where they rotate through general and specialized Medical Imaging departments, applying what they have learned in these clinical settings.

Clinical placement will offer a range of professional skills and benefits to students. The student will apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical application, receive hands-on experience in real clinical settings, and apply effective communication skills with patients and their family, clinical staff and peers. The student will problem-solve, use critical thinking techniques, develop interpersonal skills and teamwork, apply time management and organizational techniques, make decisions in professional settings, apply conflict resolution and adaptability techniques, and gain understanding of ethical and legal considerations in clinical practice.
