Your Comprehensive Guide to Choosing the Right Business Program

Where Do I Begin?

First, you’ll want to run down a few key considerations. Settle in with a cup of coffee or tea, turn on your favourite music for concentration and flow and think about each one of these areas and record what comes.

Consider:

1. Your Personality and the Vibe You Seek – Are you looking for a place where you can get to know your instructor, join not just a class but a community, receive support along your educational journey, feel as though people truly care about your long-term success? You’ll want to match your personality with the place you’ll be studying within. Do the values and vision speak to you? Are the reviews of students like you stellar? Do your research, take a tour, and consider the way you feel all along the way.

2. Your Current Strengths and Skillset – Reflecting on your interests and the skills and experience you’ve gleaned to date, review each program, and see what resonates. If you’re still considering if your interests really align with a business program, you can take our “Business Career Discovery Quiz” and see for yourself.

3. Your Career Goals – Where do you see yourself in the years ahead; what you can envision doing in three to five years? What do you want to contribute to a workplace? What kind of workplace environment do you want to contribute to? Do you want to be working behind the scenes or on the frontlines of decision making? Are you a wiz at numbers, a stellar leader, a person particular about the details and jazzed by keeping all in order? As you review each program, ask yourself these questions and see what responses come.

4. Your Program Objectives and Timeline – There are myriad options, so you’ll want to get clear about what makes sense for you. Are you looking to get your career launched as quickly as possible? Do you need to work during your studies? Do you have family responsibilities you’ll need to consider? Does the ability to learn hands-on speak to you? Do you want a program that includes a practicum where you can apply the skills you’ve learned in the real world with potential employers?

If you’re not quite sure, no problem, our Admissions Advisors, are here to help each student find their best program fit and navigate their way through, from application to graduation.
