Chijioke’s Journey to Becoming a Pharmacy Assistant

I married my wife in 2021 and had to migrate to Canada, where she was a resident. One natural question that followed my migration was sustenance. How would I sustain myself and my family? One day, my wife said, “People who attend schools here easily get jobs through placements, so I think you should explore that option. I believe private schools are more enthusiastic about their approach. Coincidentally, Anderson is close to our home. Let’s get in touch.” That statement marked the beginning of my Anderson journey.

My first love is social science. However, I have an untapped interest in health and science. Anderson College offered two courses I was interested in: PSW and Pharmacy Assistant programs. I chose the latter. I wanted a course that had a longer career prospect.

“I am most thankful to Lisa for my placement at Walmart pharmacy. She recommended me to the Head of Department, and post-internship, I am currently on retainership.”

My course coordinator and principal instructor was Mrs. Lisa Roque. The best thing about Lisa was always clarifying course concepts students struggled with. If she couldn’t do it on the spot, she would do it later. However, I am most thankful to Lisa for my placement at Walmart pharmacy. She recommended me to the Head of Department, and post-internship, I am currently on retainership.

My wife has given me tremendous support on this journey. She was my study partner and challenged me intellectually.

Finally, Anderson made it convenient to attend virtual lectures. That helped me save money on transportation. Also, the Anderson staff was very responsive. This was especially notable with the IT and administrative teams. Thank you, Anderson College.
