If you’ve ever had a passion for caring for others or thought about pursuing a career in the healthcare industry, the time to live that dream is now! With the last few years we’ve faced as a country, the lessons learned during COVID, the challenges healthcare workers have risen to, and the growing understanding of how taxed our system is, we are keenly aware that we need you! Here are the top reasons to set your sights on joining the healthcare workforce.

Top 5 Reasons to Work in Healthcare

1. Diverse Job Prospects

Whether you’re passionate about the heart, mind, inner workings, or the teeth, the scanning, stretching, esthetic care or working with babies or seniors, in healthcare, there is something for everyone. Whether you’re intrigued by diagnostic medical sonography, cardiology technology, physiotherapy assisting, occupational health and safety, dental assisting, or helping people learn and grow, heal or age with dignity, there is a position that can match your vision of how you want to support and contribute to the lives of others.

2. Varied Education and Work Environments

The educational pathways to get you to the career of your dreams are as varied as the jobs themselves. Pursuing healthcare programs, at leading-edge healthcare colleges, don’t have to take years of your life and can offer you the skills and hands-on learning you need to succeed. There are real opportunities for you to take healthcare courses in Canada and online healthcare training programs and be job-ready and in demand in months. You dream it, and you can be it. Whether you’re looking to work behind the scenes, support physicians or become a physician yourself, work in a hospital, a clinic or in a patient’s or client’s home, healthcare offers a diverse range of work environments to select from.

3. In-Demand Careers

With an increase in the needs of patients in Ontario and Canada, there are a variety of opportunities for healthcare workers. Job security and longevity are a reality for anyone entering the healthcare field at this time. This is a reality of our times and our future. Healthcare training programs are doing their best to respond. Colleges like Anderson are focused on meeting industry and student needs by adding in-demand programs, pursuing accreditation to give students credibility and building partnerships to support students in their hands-on practicum training. If you do your homework and select a healthcare program in Canada with a reputation for excellence there is no limit to the positive educational experience you can have and career opportunities that can be yours.

4. Awesome Earning Potential

With high job demand comes competitive salaries and hourly wages. When cities are in need of support and you have the skills and practical training from a reputable college – and have the support of a Career Services team to teach you how to write a resume to catch an employer’s eye and ace an interview, the sky’s the limit for your career. We might know a thing or two about that (see below).

5. Mind and Heart Expanding

Being a part of a healthcare team isn’t just about amazing job opportunities, security for your family and a rewarding, ever-expanding, stimulating career (while those aspects are fabulous), it’s about giving to those in real need. Each and every day when you go to work as a healthcare professional you know you’re making a difference. You are on the inside track of what skills are most needed and even if you begin in one position you can constantly grow and evolve, adapting to industry needs.

When you work in healthcare, you are a part of something larger than yourself. You are supporting people on their journeys, empowering them to live vibrant lives, or saving lives. There is no higher calling and there has never been a better time to offer your service and your passion to those in need, no matter what stream of contribution you choose.
