Top 5 Reasons to Become a Massage Therapist

Top 5 Reasons to Become a Massage Therapist

People are not only living longer, but they are intent on feeling and looking great while doing it. And with over 5 million Canadians reporting that they use some sort of alternative health therapy or product, spending a total of $8.8. billion, Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is big business with extraordinary opportunities.

What does this mean for you as you set your sights on a career to fuel a future that is not only lucrative but aligns your passions and interests with how you serve in the world?

Well, if you’ve ever considered massage therapy school or pursuing a massage therapist education, then do we have some insights for you.

Top 5 Reasons to Become a Massage Therapist & How to Launch Your Career

1.Booming Industry and Opportunities

Fraser Institute initiated three series of surveys on the public attitudes and use of alternative healthcare practices and products. Between the second and third surveys, the amount Canadians spent increased by $800 million and massage therapy was the most common type of therapy they used over their lifetime. There can be no doubt that people are recognizing the value of, and taking an active role in, preventing future health issues and illness, and massage therapy is one of the fastest growing professions.

2.Job Security

While stress certainly has a negative impact on so many people’s lives, for massage therapists this condition is the very reason career opportunities abound and they are so needed. We know that stress experienced over time, particularly after a crisis like the pandemic, compounds health issues and can cause damage in any number of areas in the body. Consistent relief and tender treatment of the muscles and joints, as well as the compassion a massage therapist offers to those in need of care, can work wonders to not only alleviate stress but improve quality of life on various levels. These real and persistent needs offer job security to those skilled massage therapists with a passion for people.

3.Variety & Flexibility

Not only do you have the chance to work in any number of environments, from high-end spas, medical offices and health/fitness centres to your own office or home or your client’s, but you can pick your schedule, hours, and work for someone else or yourself. You can also hone in on any number of modalities, and generalize or specialize in medical, sports or even pregnancy massage. You pave the way for the career you envision and enjoy the rewards of finding your own health and healing in the work/life balance you create for yourself and model for your clients.

4.Wildly Rewarding

With choice and flexibility, job security, and a knowledge that your services are in constant need, comes less stress for yourself and in turn for your clients. Every day you have the opportunity to significantly help others, to witness their relief, hear their stories of gratitude and healing. Your work in the world makes a difference in the lives of others and this ripples out to their loved ones, their colleagues and how your clients move through their days and communities. If you have a desire to encourage and empower others, then this career can offer you the tangible and intangible rewards that coincide with your life goals.

5.Fast, Affordable, Credible Training

With the right massage training and massage therapist classes taught by industry experts, blending theoretical and practical, hands-on training, with a school that is recognized by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO), you can receive the education required to succeed. As you research massage therapist colleges, we’d love it if you considered Anderson College for your training, support and networking needs. Our program is 22 months and students are exposed to diverse and extensive clinical opportunities through our in-house public clinic.
