Student Fighting COVID-19 – Maypril’s Story

Student Fighting COVID-19 – Maypril’s Story

Everything has changed – our priorities, our routines, and the way we live. While COVID-19 has separated us physically, we are more determined to stay connected with you. Whether you are combatting COVID-19 at the front line or from home.

Maypril S. is a Medical Esthetics student at the Downtown campus. Here is her story:

What do you like most about your virtual classes?

I really enjoyed the idea of online classes while in quarantine because we are staying home. I am able to attend class on time with no TTC delays, no traffic, no rushing in the elevator. I can also do housekeeping at the same time! Overall, I really like this class because all lectures, assignments, and tests are straightforward. I have enough time to read my lessons and finish my homework. We can share ideas and opinions just like we are in the same room .

What is your best study tip for online learning?

You should not skip any of the lessons and make sure you are on time for your classes. Make notes in your books and participate with the class discussions, as you normally would.

covid19 storiesWhat is the biggest challenge with online learning?

The biggest challenge is motivation. You are the person in charge of your own success – you need to keep your own motivations clear in your mind so you can keep prioritizing study when your initial enthusiasm subsides. You should put energy into all of your lesson. As long as you’re motivated to learn, then you will have the energy to listen and absorb the lesson.

Share your favourite moment from your virtual classes

I love to explain and discuss the answers to questions that I know and understand.. I love to share my opinions and ideas and I love interacting with my teacher and classmates.

Share a message you would like to pass on to our frontline workers

My heartfelt thanks goes out to healthcare workers, personal support workers, pharmacists, and paramedics who are caring for the sick; to the police and firefighters who continue to keep us safe; to the food processors, food providers, drivers and grocery store staff who are keeping food on our tables; to those working to keep the lights on, the water clean; to transit workers who are keeping essential transportation operating; and the many others going to work to provide essential services – THANK YOU!
