Everything has changed – our priorities, our routines, and the way we live. While COVID-19 has separated us physically, we are more determined to stay connected with you. Whether you are combatting COVID-19 at the front line or from home.
Mihkel R. from Head Office shared his story with us:
What are your tips for online teaching and/or working from home?
- Assign a space for yourself to be your “office”. Sit in front of it.
- Assign yourself the schedule to get tasks done. Stick to it.
- Keep in touch with your coworkers, visually if possible (not a requirement, but it simulates to the personal connections we’re used to).
- Take breaks, stand up to get some food when you’re hungry, or just to stretch your legs.
- Although it’s been said repeatedly, try to remember that this event is unprecedented in history and the entire world is affected: We really are in this together.
- Reach out if you need help or just someone to talk to.
- Your friends and family will love hearing from you from time to time. Call/email them.
- Don’t let yourself get caught up in the news too much; watch the occasional puppy/kitten video.
Share a fun moment that happened while you have been teaching and/or working from home
It can be fun seeing how people are at home. How they dress casually, without makeup or hair products. Without realizing that they (or their family members) are very visible in the background during a video conference. Not that we’d expect everyone to be dressed in their work outfit at home, of course: though it may be more than what we’re usually willing to show of ourselves to the general public. (It’s why my desk faces away from the wall; my camera only sees a wall behind me).

It has been said before, and I want to reiterate how proud we, at Anderson, are of our students. You have shown that you are adaptable and your willingness to continue to learn in these challenging times displays a strong character that will carry you to a successful future. Just keep going, because we’ll keep going for you. We’re in this together. By now, you’ve also found out what is truly important in your life. Keep that thought.
