A Thought to Ponder
“The beautiful spring came, and when nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.” —Harriet Ann Jacobs
May the colour bursting forth, pushing up through the earth of winter, the green sprouting on all your favourite trees, the grass spreading in its brilliance and the joyous twitter of every bird celebrating the day, awaken the spring of your spirit and put a spring in your step.
A Short Story to Inspire
In the heart of a dense forest, two tiny acorns lay nestled in the rich soil, just a short distance from one another; each of them dreaming of a day when they would grow into mighty oak trees. Patiently, they waited through the long winter months, buried beneath a blanket of snow, until finally, the thaw of spring arrived.
As the days grew longer and the sun shone brighter, the acorns began to stir. Slowly, they sent out roots to anchor firmly in the earth, and tender shoots emerged from their shells, reaching toward the sky.
With each passing day, the tiny saplings grew stronger, stretching branches toward the heavens and drinking in the nourishing rain. They reveled in the beauty of the forest, swaying in the breeze, basking in the golden light and warmth of the sun, and every once in a while, in their delight, they would wave to one another.
But as the seasons changed and summer turned to autumn, the young oak trees faced a great challenge. A fierce storm swept through the forest, its powerful winds threatening to uproot the fragile saplings. With every gust, the oak trees trembled, their branches straining against the force of the wind. One sapling, deep within its core, discovered strength and resilience, drawing upon the lessons of spring and the wisdom of its ancestors. The other, allowed its fear to overcome.
Over the howl of the wind, the frightened oak called out, “I don’t think we’ll make it through this, but I’ve been honoured to stand beside you for a time.”
The other was startled by the friend’s confession, “Of course we’ll make it! Don’t give up. You’ll see, we’ll be back and waving in the sun again soon.”
But the call could not be heard; the sapling had let go its roots and taken to the wind.
When the storm finally passed, the one oak tree stood tall, its roots firmly planted in the earth. Though battered and scarred, and greatly missing a fellow friend in the forest, it had weathered the tempest and emerged stronger than ever before.
From that day forth, the oak tree served as a symbol of resilience and perseverance, a testament to the power of growth and renewal. And as each spring brought new life to the forest, the mighty oak stood as a reminder that even the smallest seed, nurtured by faith, has the potential to become something truly extraordinary.
The Moral of the Story ~ Endure the waiting, the moments when your desires seem out of reach. Weather the storms of your life, hold fast and keep the faith. Trials and dark seasons will test your roots, but in the spring of time, warmth and rewards will find you and you’ll stretch tall and proud in the sun of your success.
