She Stayed Disciplined, Focused, and the Sky (and Job) Became Hers!

She Stayed Disciplined, Focused, and the Sky (and Job) Became Hers!

And if Oluwaseyi can see her way through a pandemic, quit her job to study full time and not give up… You Can Too!

As we all have, Anderson College students have faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to focus on the triumphs and celebrate the courage and tenacity of our community, we launched a My2020 Story Campaign. Students were asked a few poignant questions to spark the sharing of their experiences and insights. The response was overwhelming and, in the process, we have been blown away by their authentic sharing and inspired by the powerful lessons they have learned. We are grateful to all those who contributed and are richer for having you in our Anderson family.

Here is one such story, for you …

2020 was the worst year for many people for many unfortunate reasons. However, for me, one of the unfortunate incidents of 2020 made “My 2020” a memorable year for me in a way I never thought it would.

When I look back, I had the time of my life with school and great opportunities followed.

“I started 2020 wondering how I would be able to cope with studying again after eight years and in a new country.”

I started 2020 wondering how I would be able to cope with studying again after eight years, and in a new country where I practically just made do with whatever was thrown my way. I will confess that I enrolled for my course because of the inspiration that my Admissions Officer gave me back in 2019. And I almost didn’t see it through due to personal and social problems. So, you can imagine the frustration I was feeling going into 2020 with the thought of school.

I had a really frustrating job that rewarded me very little but consumed so much of my time – days, evenings and weekends. The COVID pandemic started; in February 2020, I lost all hope of seeing my program through. I never expected I was going to have the courage to quit my job for school. When it was announced that school would be virtual, I said to myself “this might work out after all”.

“I am glad and happy I chose Anderson College now because as I finished up my course, I landed the best offer I ever received since I came to Canada.”

I tendered my resignation to study full-time. But I was sad from having no source of income and depended on my partner for months. In the midst of pandemic, despite lack of money and emotional distress, I soldiered on. I am glad and happy I chose Anderson College now because as I finished up my course, I landed the best offer I ever received since I came to Canada. It was a great opportunity with enough room for my studies and lots of rooms for growth. I was so thrilled to finish my course and present my new employer with my certificate.

All in all, 2020, even with all the struggles, was a time for me to get back to school and take advantage of the great opportunity that waited for me once I graduated. And above all I came through it feeling even better, mentally and emotionally.

“Never wait for opportunity, go grab it for yourself because success waits for no one.”

My 2020 was memorable indeed, thanks to all the good people I had around me who encouraged me. I learned so many new things about accounting and continue to learn ALL I can so I can go out and conquer the world!

My story will encourage anyone facing my kind of troubles and encourage them to keep pushing on no matter the circumstances or situation. “It is never over until it’s over”. Things can only get better if you strive and surround yourself with good energy and people. Never wait for opportunity, go grab it for yourself because success waits for no one. Stay true, disciplined, and focused and the sky will be just the starting point.
