She Lost her Job but Didn’t Give Up. There is Hope. – Charina’s Journey

She Lost her Job but Didn’t Give Up. There is Hope. – Charina’s Journey

As we all have, Anderson College students have faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to focus on the triumphs and celebrate the courage and tenacity of our community, we launched a My2020 Story Campaign. Students were asked a few poignant questions to spark the sharing of their experiences and insights. The response was overwhelming, and in the process, we have been blown away by their authentic sharing and inspired by the powerful lessons they have learned. We are grateful to all those who contributed and are richer for having you in our Anderson family.

Here is one such story, for you …

How Charina Found Hope Through the Dental Assistant Program

“Why is 2020 memorable for you?” we asked Charina.

“For me, it is because of the countless rough patches I had to go through. It has been a bittersweet year due to the pandemic, losing a job and, in many moments, feeling hopeless. Despite all this, I have gained a lot of opportunities, lessons, and new experiences in which I am truly grateful for, thanks to Anderson College.

Due to the pandemic, I lost my job and, in this, I felt like a burden to my family. I am truly thankful for Anderson College and their giving me the opportunity to fill the void that my job loss left me with, and to fulfill my dream.

I had lost hope, but Anderson College and my family gave me the push I needed to bounce back. I am in the Intra Oral Dental Assistant program and, while everything is new to me, it is an exciting opportunity. Anderson College has given me something to look forward to every day.

Balancing Motherhood and a Dental Assistant Course

Although it has not been easy, I am proud of myself for having both the courage and strength to balance studies and my duties as a mom. While I felt like I was starting all over again, I have learned that life is not about who finishes first, but who finishes anyway, despite the obstacles.

Embracing this state of mind has helped me conquer my fears and turn my challenges into opportunities. I know how tough it has been for others who, like me, lost their jobs and are struggling to move forward.

I chose to share my story because I know a lot of people right now are going through a rough patch and are feeling lost. I hope we always remember the importance of family, how great our support systems are and see a way forward on the path. We must trust the process, believe in ourselves, and do whatever we can to achieve our dreams.
