Qualities of an Invaluable Executive Assistant and How to Become One

Qualities of an Invaluable Executive Assistant and How to Become One

“No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another.”
~ Joseph Addison

An executive and administrative assistant (EA) is the backbone of an influential leader, the gatekeeper, the representative, the one with their finger on the pulse, often the very reason another succeeds and the unsung hero of the office. If you’re looking to become an administration executive or get your diploma in administration, you’ll want to know precisely the characteristics that will empower you to thrive in this in-demand and highly revered career.

While your executive studies in any leading-edge college will certainly teach you the essential hard skills to succeed, there are other skills that leaders look for and that will ensure you are not only valuable but indispensable.

Qualities to Cultivate to Become an Invaluable Executive Assistant

1. Wizard-Like Anticipation Skills

Top EAs have an uncanny ability to see the big picture, the minute details and understand exactly what needs to be done, often even before their executive does and plans and executes accordingly.

2. Wild Ability to Organize and Wield Time

EAs that rise to the top are not only detail oriented and able to keep things in absolute order, but, because they are observant and anticipating what’s next, they can juggle multiple projects and actually make it seem like they’ve slowed time. They can accomplish in one hour what most could do in three and they get a buzz out of doing it.

3. Adept at Adaptability

No two days are the same in the world of an EA and they adapt like a ninja, with enthusiasm. They thrive on the constant shift in a successful executive’s world and empower them to handle it all with grace and ease whenever and however they can.

4. Master Communicators

From intense listening and learning-to-evolve skills, ability to wield a pen like a sword and slay or serve to suit an executive’s needs, to speaking and networking with confidence, EAs are powerful and purposeful representatives of a organization.

5. Highly Loyal, Discreet and of Absolute Integrity

There is no one with more access to personal, powerful, precious-to-a-organization information than an EA. Your ability to do what needs to be done, truly care to serve the person you work for, use your sense and discretion at all times and consistently do exactly what you say you will, will have you soaring in profession.
