Leveraging Supply Chain Shortages to Launch Your In-Demand Career – in 1 Year

Headlines across the industry flag massive supply chain shortages. In a rapidly evolving business sector, more and more companies are recognizing supply chain and logistics as foundations for their success, but there simply aren’t enough skilled professionals to fill the void, despite the incentives and benefits.

While this poses day-to-day challenges for organizations and those of us waiting for supplies, it also provides an extraordinary opportunity for those seeking an in-demand career, those interested in supply chain and logistics training and obtaining their supply chain management certification.

Leveraging Supply Chain Shortages to Launch Your In-Demand Career

So, what is the current situation and how can you leverage this shortage to launch the career and life you’ve imagined for you, for your loved ones, as you look to train for your first or next position?

Why is there a labour shortage in Supply Chain?

A Rapidly Evolving Industry

Many current skilled employees are aging, and with advanced technology and AI being utilized to bolster processes and increase productivity, retraining and attracting new tech-savvy recruits are required.

While tech and AI may create the impression that these advancements would fill the role of employees, that’s simply not true. According to Harvard Business Review’s article on How to the Address the Supply Chain Staffing Crisis, “Technology is now advanced enough to fill in many of the gaps resulting from skills shortages but cannot do it alone. Rebuilding distressed supply chains will require a combination of technology and human skills development strategies. …

“Although deploying technology to automate routine tasks requires talent and manpower, once the technology is up and running it can free up workers to focus on higher-value tasks that require human involvement.”

Shortage of Talent to Meet Demand

It’s no secret that the industry is being negatively impacted by a lack of skilled professionals. According to Supply Chain Management Review, “A study of over 1,000 industry decision-makers by Descartes found that 76% of today’s supply chain operations are experiencing notable workforce shortages, with 37% of respondents characterizing the resource shortage they face as high to extreme.”
