Lessons Of COVID – A New Country, A Dream Realized, Despite the Odds.

Lessons Of COVID – A New Country, A Dream Realized, Despite the Odds.

As we all have, Anderson College students have faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to focus on the triumphs and celebrate the courage and tenacity of our community, we launched a My2020 Story Campaign. Students were asked a few poignant questions to spark the sharing of their experiences and insights. The response was overwhelming and, in the process, we have been blown away by their authentic sharing and inspired by the powerful lessons they have learned. We are grateful to all those who contributed and are richer for having you in our Anderson family.

Here is one such story, for you …

The year 2020 taught us several lessons that should be implemented in our lives. I came to Canada with my husband and my daughter in 2019. During the 14-hour flight from India, I was reflecting and arrived in Canada with a determination to start something new for myself. I acted on this and enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician course at Anderson College in Hamilton.

As a commerce major, I knew this would be a very novel experience for me and would not be easy. However, I was determined to strive and work hard, which allowed me to climb the steps towards my new journey. Over the course of time, I learned everything with passion and made heartwarming memories with my new friends.

“With the blessings of my close ones, I was able to pass the MLPAO exam and achieve success!”

In March, COVID-19 was announced as a pandemic and this changed the entire path towards my journey. I was forced to make changes to my methods of learning when we transitioned to virtual classes. During this challenging time, I got to spend time and bake with my two children, this kept me grounded and peaceful. My husband would support me after his day of work and aided me with household chores. With the blessings of my close ones, I was able to pass the MLPAO exam and achieve success in my academic year.

The moral of this story is that although 2020 had many unprecedented events, I became closer with my family and learned to have a positive mindset. I learned how to embark on this rollercoaster ride with a positive attitude and make 2020 the year that changed my life. It is vital to be positive and patient to drive your path towards success. If I can do it, you can to.
