Finding Powerful Purpose Through Mom’s PSW Legacy – Eduardo’s Story

In celebration of our convocation 2023, and the opportunity for us to finally be together and celebrate in person after three years, we asked our graduates to share their Anderson College experience.

Asking, “How has Anderson College changed your life?” prompted over a hundred submissions … this is one of those extraordinary student stories.

We hope this reflection moves you, as it has our Anderson family, and inspires you to ever embrace the career and life you imagine and, truly, deserve.

Why I Chose to Become a Personal Support Worker

Studying to be a Personal Support Worker at Anderson College has been such a positive journey as it has shown me my purpose in life and what a fulfilling career I can have.

If it wasn’t for my amazing mom, who took the PSW program at Anderson College before me, I would never have known that being a healthcare worker could be so fulfilling. I chose the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program so that I could follow in my mom’s footsteps. She is the most important person to me, and I found it so brave of her to return to school despite the trials and challenges she has faced. I did not expect to be so impacted by studying to be a PSW.

What Advice Does Eduardo Have for Future PSW Students?

This program has guided me towards a bright new chapter that will spark a great career. I owe so much to the amazing staff who take the time out of their days to educate students like me. I would like to personally thank Carolyne M. Without her gentle and compassionate approach to teaching, I don’t think I would have been prepared to take on this new chapter. She and the other instructors have been so kind and insightful throughout my experience, and I appreciate all their hard work. It is because of their support, encouragement, compassion, and wisdom I have the confidence to take this journey.

I would like to tell all future Anderson students, “Never lose hope; remember that there are always opportunities available for you to achieve fulfillment.”
