Chase Your Dreams. You’re Worth It! – Jaspreet’s Story

Chase Your Dreams. You’re Worth It! – Jaspreet’s Story

As we all have, Anderson College students have faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to focus on the triumphs and celebrate the courage and tenacity of our community, we launched a My2020 Story Campaign. Students were asked a few poignant questions to spark the sharing of their experiences and insights. The response was overwhelming and, in the process, we have been blown away by their authentic sharing and inspired by the powerful lessons they have learned. We are grateful to all those who contributed and are richer for having you in our Anderson family.

Here is one such story, for you …

2020 brought many changes to our daily lives. Firstly, wearing masks is now a part of our regular dress code. Secondly, 2020 brought our families closer together and helped people to realize how important it is for families to spend time together.

I was super excited for the year 2020 before COVID-19 hit. During COVID, it was very hard to do what I would normally do! I also stopped working and stayed home for my kids, since they were learning remotely. I started thinking about whether I should go to college to further my education, or whether I should get a better job. I’d been considering further education for a long time. However, I couldn’t go back to college due to family responsibilities and health problems. Eight years later, I finally decided to further my education and I chose Anderson College.

“I learned a lot of lessons in 2020, including the importance of never giving up, believing in yourself and chasing your dreams.”

At first it was very hard, however I kept trying which resulted in my meeting new people and making friends; I also had an amazing instructor. The more I pushed myself, the more I kept improving. While I learned a lot of new things, I still had a hard time due to my health problems. But I never gave up and, despite the challenges financially, Anderson College’s finance team supported me to follow my dreams.

I have a loud family which was a big challenge as well. Juggling studies with family responsibilities meant it was sometimes hard to focus. To help with this, I did yoga to keep my mind focused. Even dealing with a huge number of responsibilities and my experiencing health problems, I worked hard and learned many new things. And facing and achieving all that I did, I experienced an amazing boost in my confidence.

I learned a lot of lessons in 2020, including the importance of never giving up, believing in yourself and chasing your dreams.

I hope my story will inspire others because my life at this time was extremely challenging and hard. However, despite my struggles, I was able to achieve my goals. I learned about how important health is and how the environment affects us. The moral of my story is to never to give up and always, always believe in yourself! You’re worth it!
