Anderson’s Med Lab Technician Program Announces Partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences

Anderson College’s ultimate goal is to ensure every graduate is confident and in demand upon program completion. To do this, as students look to become a medical technician / medical technologist, they must not only consider their college training for lab technician, but the hands-on practical experience they will glean from professionals in the field. Ultimately our job is to ensure that a practicum experience – an opportunity to apply the skills learned to positions in the field – is relevant, topnotch and may lead to employment for those who expertly apply themselves.
This requires partnerships with leading-edge healthcare training facilities. And this is why we’re thrilled to announce that Hamilton Health Sciences will join our ever-growing hospital partnerships in the area, helping us to further provide students with work placements designed to help them succeed.
The hospitals that will be joining us as we provide exceptional training for Medical Laboratory Technician Assistants (MLT/A) are:
- Guelph General Hospital (GGH)
- Haldimand War Memorial Hospital (HWMH)
- Brantford Hospital (BCHS)
- Cambridge Hospital and,
- Three Niagara Health System Hospitals -St. Catherines General, Welland General and Niagara Falls Hospital.
Hamilton’s Lead Instructor Helen shared with us that, “Adding Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital, MacMaster and St. Joseph’s hospitals represents an amazing accomplishment for Anderson College’s Hamilton Campus. We also have area clinics and LifeLabs, Dynacare, Med-Health Laboratories and MCI-the Doctor’s Office available for student placement.
“With all these clinical locations on board, a student goes from didactic learning to simulation and directly into their placement without any lag time in between. With 601 MLT/A job openings in Ontario, in our experience thus far, 95% of Hamilton students are hired by their placement sites.
“As the lead instructor, I work closely with the students to make sure they are placed in a location that meets their needs so they can graduate with their medical technician certification and join the work force. We also work hard to help students be successful in passing their Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) and Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams. This is supported by the fact that all our instructors are dual certified, with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) certification.
“This is an incredible development for us and for our students; we very much look forward to having new students embracing this opportunity and helping them to prepare for a new and exciting career!”
