Amazon’s New Facility in Hamilton Creates 1500 Jobs

Amazon’s New Facility in Hamilton Creates 1500 Jobs

Online shopping has grown considerably in recent years, especially due to COVID-19. As a result, many companies like Amazon have been increasing in scale and, as such, they have decided to invest in a new fulfillment and delivery center in Hamilton.

Amazon’s plan includes an 855,000 square foot fulfillment center located in Mount Hope, near the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. Within this facility employees will work alongside Amazon robots to pick, pack and ship small items to customers. It will also include a 50,000 square foot delivery center in Stoney Creek.

This is one of the largest local investments in Hamilton’s history and is set to create over 1,500 jobs in Hamilton. The City of Hamilton now has the opportunity to develop and promote the Airport Employment Growth District – a planned development for a major business park which effectively integrates with and complements the existing John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport – as a North American Gateway hub for logistics, distribution and the movement of goods.

Norm Schleehahn, Hamilton’s Director of Economic Development, has expressed her excitement regarding this great news, “It’s wonderful to have a global brand like Amazon recognize Hamilton’s advantages in the logistics sector.”

This is excellent news for those either working in the Logistics and Supply Chain field or those looking to enter this career path. The growth of the Airport Employment Growth District within the City of Hamilton highlights the potential for more companies to settle in the area, which will ultimately allow for the creation of more job in the future.
