May is for mothers and the mother figures in our lives who loved and launched us into the world, who encouraged us as we found our first steps, tested our boundaries, and took to soaring solo, who taught us to nurture one another, ideas, and our dreams. Whether these mothers bore us into this physical life, or we discovered them along our way, we all have people in our lives who are shining examples of what it is to fiercely, sweetly, powerfully love.
This month we honour mothers from all corners of the earth and the mother within us all, no matter our gender, and the essence within us that embodies the traits of the women and souls who have compassionately cared, and do care, for us so well.
Those who have birthed children, those who care for a fur-baby or a community, and all of you Anderson students who, at this very moment, are nourishing a goal to enhance your career and launch an even better life … we celebrate YOU!

A Thought to Ponder
“A mom is like a teabag. You can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
There is nothing more profound and courageous than a mother’s love. Ode to the women, and loving figures, in our lives who make us smile and laugh, who stand up for us, see us through our dark days with a light so bright that it not only illuminates what is before us, but what is within us.
A Short Story to Inspire
In a lush forest, there lived a mother bird and her chicks.
One sunny morning, as the mother bird was out gathering food, a sly fox approached the nest. The hungry fox longed to snatch a plump chick for his breakfast. The mother bird sensed the danger from afar. She swooped down bravely and distracted the fox, leading him on a merry chase through the trees, the brush, and thickets, close enough to draw him on, but always just out of his reach.
The chicks, though frightened, huddled together for safety.
After what seemed like an eternity, the mother bird outsmarted the fox and led him far, far away from her precious nest. She returned to her chicks, relieved and triumphant.
“My little ones, how brave you were to keep calm and still together; although, I’m sure you were very afraid, ” she said. “Always remember that courage and quick thinking can keep you safe. Even the smallest creatures can outwit those who are stronger.”
The Moral of the Story ~ A mother’s love is fierce, courageous, and wise; we would do well to nurture these traits within ourselves and realize that with that love encouraging us, in the world and from within, there is nothing we cannot overcome.
