Those who choose to compassionately care for others, who address the needs of those facing the affects of aging, injury or illness … are heroes in our books. With an aging population and the aftermath of COVID-19, we have never needed personal support workers more, and they are increasingly in demand.

If you’re thinking about taking a PSW course or a PSW course online, or have just graduated from our PSW Program or our PSW Hybrid Program, you may be considering what’s next?

First, for those considering a personal support worker course, Anderson College has two leading-edge programs. The PSW Program is 40 weeks, includes a 15-week practicum with on-the-job training, offsite with potential employers. The PSW Hybrid Program, allows students to study online, at their own pace and engage in virtual class instruction. It can be completed in 27 weeks and includes 5 weeks of, clinical/long-term care and 3 weeks of community care, externships.

  • Home Support Worker

For those looking to work outside a hospital or care facility, this position may be a perfect fit. In this role, you will contribute your skills and compassionate services to clients in their home, helping to aid in their independence, physical and mental wellbeing, delivering care with respect.

  • Resident Care Aide

In this position you can work within a retirement centre or long-term care facility, offering holistic personal care and supporting in daily routines and personal and social activities to promote patient health and wellness.

  • Palliative Care Assistant

For those with a calling to care for those in the last phase of their lives, you will powerfully contribute to the wellbeing of patients and their families. You may work within a palliative care facility, or within a patient’s home.

  • Restorative Care Aide

In this position you will help patients of various ages recover their physical, mental and emotional health by establishing patient care plans, performing rehabilitation exercises, and recording patient progress. Your work may take place within hospitals, rehabilitation facilities or in other settings that provide rehabilitative services and therapies.

  • Continuing Care Assistant

In this role you will work under a nurse’s supervision, with patient group of various ages, attending to their daily needs. You may help with eating, meal preparation, getting moving, and even checking and monitoring vital signs and health. Your support allows patients to feel a sense of autonomy and wellbeing.

  • Psychiatric Aide

As a psychiatric aide you will assist those who deal with mental health concerns, helping with daily tasks, engaging with them in physical activities and offering emotional support. You will work alongside a mental health professional team, empowering patients to improve their quality of life.

How long does it take to complete a program at Anderson College?
Most diploma programs run 24–58 weeks of full-time study, depending on the discipline. Healthcare programs (PSW, Cardiology, MOA, Dental Assistant) typically include a clinical or work placement so you graduate job-ready.
What financial aid options are available?
