5 Key Tips to Master to Succeed in Business Administration

1. Set Your Sights on a Clear Target

The arrow needs to know where it’s headed before it can take aim and hit the bullseye. Dreaming is awesome, setting clear and measurable goals is essential to planning, launching, and running a successful business.

  • Set your SMART goals. Ensure they are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.
  • Assess by doing a SWOT analysis of the opportunity. Review the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats with regard to your business idea.
  • Consider your audience(s) and how and when you’ll deliver what you do.
  • Take all this and, once you’ve got a solid idea, outline, goals, and objectives, put it into a business plan.

2. Track Your Progress, Adapt, Adjust, Repeat

Setting a plan in place is just the start, next is to select a tool and system for tracking what works, what needs tweaking, celebrating wins and learning from the pitfalls along the way. Each glitch is a learning, but to see it you need to be assessing how things are progressing day-by-day. From daily check-ins to weekly meetings to review performance and refine strategies, systems for monitoring and enhancing are essential.

  • Ensure all team members are on the same page. Launch the tracking systems and ensure adherence by all.
  • Meet weekly to assess the plan and tweak goals; meet daily to update and set small targets.
  • Adapt, adapt, adapt. In closely reviewing, you’ll immediately see what’s working and what need enhancing and shifting.

3. Wield Time or Come Pretty Darn Close

Once you’ve set your goals you need to ensure your efficiency keeps time with your vision. This means that you’ve got deadlines attached to each objective and are meeting them. You need to have long-term goals and all the smaller ones that enable you to reach them. A business administrator course, if you don’t have one under your belt already, will help you tackle things like finances, record keeping and best practices so that you’re always on top of your game.

  • Break larger goals into smaller objectives and tasks.
  • Set timelines in place for each task.
  • Assess often and update the timeline to meet the shift.
  • Attend to the details, stay organized and when in need … adhere to #4.

4. Delegate, Delegate, Delegate.

Sometimes you’re running the show solo. In this case, hire out small projects and tasks that can be best tackled by others and focus on the top priorities yourself. When you have a team, remember that truly successful people recognize that they can’t reach the top alone. Many heads are better than one, and leveraging the abilities and expertise of your team means you can manifest the vision, and bring others along on the rewarding ride.

  • Know what you excel at; know where and when you need help.
  • Hire and align with those whose skillset compliments your own, doesn’t mirror it.
  • Set your priorities and trust others enough to take the lead in other areas.
  • Recognize and celebrate the contributions of others; it takes a village to raise a dream.

5. Communicate with Verve

An ability to tap all levels of communication from listening and observing to engaging and delivering a message to enliven and empower the team and build confidence in your clientele, will allow you to go further, faster.

  • Know your audience and craft messages to meet them where they’re at.
  • For your team – define expectations, provide feedback, encourage creativity, support development, and keep two-way communication channels wide open.
  • For your customer – be in integrity, say and do what you say you’ll say and do always, build trust, collaborate strategically, follow up on concerns, communicate proactively, thank regularly.

With these powerful and purposeful tips driving the development and delivery of your business, you will be poised for limitless success.
