5 Habits of Highly Successful Business Managers and How to Become One

“If your actions inspire others to dream more,
learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
– John Quincy Adams
As a business manager you need not reinvent the ‘managerial wheel’, so to speak; there have been enough extraordinary leaders, and those who’ve tried and failed, for us to glean from. Whether you’ve taken business studies online, a business course or have your business management degree, it is essential to understand the practical, foundational, keys to empowering your small business and your people to soar.
And if you’re still considering your options for a business college, then do we have a hands-on learning option with a track record for producing in-demand grads to share with you.
So, what precisely do you need to achieve your goals and cultivate a crew of professionals to help you do it?
5 Habits of Highly Successful Business Managers
1. They Exemplify Enthusiasm
Your team and your customers take their cues from you. If you exude enthusiasm about your vision, your product, your service, those around you will feel it and, dare we say, be drawn inexplicably to it. If you believe in what you’re creating, doing, and building you’ll be able to surround yourself with passionate people, and customers will want what you’re selling. It all flows top down, so if you want others to be jazzed about your ideas and the ways you deliver, then you need to be keenly rooted in why you’re doing what you’re doing, love it and show it.
2. They Know How to Attract and Keep a Stellar Team
Not only does a savvy business leader know how to attract the brilliant and best, but they know how to keep them loyal and driven to deliver. This stems from an ability to build trust, that flows from recognizing the talents of your team, encouraging their skills, supporting their creative ideas and initiative, and delegating to demonstrate your belief in them. To do all of this, you must come to know your team, what inspires and fires them up and keeps them motivated to constantly grow, evolve, and contribute.
3. They Communicate with Clarity and Passion
You have to move beyond believing you have the best idea, product and/or service to communicating your understanding of this, and sparking support from others in the everyday. This begins with that authentic enthusiasm, but without your ability to transfer that understanding and passion to others, it’s all just grand ideas in your own mind. Successful business managers know how to communicate with passion and clarity on all levels. They set clear expectations and collaborate on goals, celebrate creativity and wins, mentor professionally through losses, guide with intention and know how to rally the masses, within their organization and their audience.
4. They Demonstrate Responsibility and Resiliency
To achieve greatness, you have to take full responsibility for what you’re creating, doing and delivering, and the outcomes that result. As a business manager you have a responsibility to yourself to follow your instinct and apply what you learned in your training and as you grow as a leader, but you also have a responsibility to your team and to those you serve. You must have integrity – follow through on precisely what you set out to do and what you say you’ll do. Take the wins and celebrate, and also learn from the challenges you face and overcome and own your role in them. You will falter at times, but it’s how you bounce back and embrace the lessons that will determine whether you flourish in the long-run – and remember, your team and customers are always watching how you respond to what comes.
5. They Set Their Team Up for Success
Whether utilizing the latest technology, putting support systems in place to enhance the work environment, listening to suggestions from those on the frontlines to encouraging collaboration and adapting goals to meet the current business climate, solid business leaders empower their teams – and this makes all the difference. For this kind of manager, there are few things their team members wouldn’t do for them. And if you have buy-in from your team and they drive customer/client connection and sales or are willing to run your idea through to the finish line (that constantly moves as you grow, by the way), then there is no limit to the success you can achieve.
