10 Compelling Reasons to Pursue a Career as an Early Childcare Assistant

10 Compelling Reasons to Pursue a Career as an Early Childcare Assistant

Inevitably if you’ve clicked on this post, you’re fascinated by and drawn to little ones. You may be in the midst of your childcare courses or daycare courses online or are exploring an early childhood education, but you’re dreaming about your future.

This career comes with myriad professional and personal rewards, and passionate leaders are always in demand when it comes to shaping young minds. But beyond what child daycare courses offer you, an inside glimpse at the powerful “whys” of the job is essential. Knowing these can empower you to make an informed decision, or get infinitely jazzed up, about what can be for you in the years ahead.

10 Compelling Reasons to Become an Early Childcare Assistant (ECA)

1. Make a Powerful Difference

As an ECA you are one of the first teachers in a child’s life. At a crucial time when they are learning all those glorious ‘firsts’ you are right alongside them, encouraging, supporting, cheering them on. These first years are formative years, and your nurturing, guidance and love will plant seeds that will bloom throughout their lives.

2. Paid to Play All Day

In these young years, play is the name of the game and how children learn to connect, communicate, develop essential skills and experience and express joy. You get to be right in there with them and get paid for a job that many of us would do for free.

3. Work in a Wildly Fun Environment

Your workplace is a playground, literally. The way you help children learn and the environment you create are all geared to create a sense of happiness, openness and, in the in-between-fun moments, calm. While working with children can indeed by tiring, it’s that good-tired feeling that you bring home with you each day.

4. Work Alongside Likeminded Colleagues

Who we work alongside makes every day a challenge or a chore. Daycare programs attract those who love children and have a compelling desire to enrich others and have fun doing it. These coworkers are aligned in values and must have a positive attitude to thrive in this profession; this makes them excellent colleagues who are a joy to work with.

5. Bask in the Glow of Appreciation

Not only do these children wrap their arms around you and bring you homemade gifts from time to time, but their parents are deeply grateful for a nurturing influence in the life of their child. These feelings shared by parents never gets old. We work hard as an ECA, we wear our hearts on our sleeve and perpetually look for new and better ways to care for those amazing kiddos, but a parents’ praise can truly make the effort we put in all worth it. And the smiles and hugs from the “littles” help too!

6. Escape from Boredom

One thing we never are on this job is bored! Every day is a new adventure, with new skills witnessed – from shoe tying and first art masterpieces, to learning how to say, “I’m sorry” and showing compassion for another. Every child is unique and ripe for expressing and becoming something new every single day. We are privileged to be a part of that, and it shapes us as much, if not more, than we shape them.

7. Perpetual Learning and Growth

The development between zero and 12 is mind blowing. From first steps to creative, complex problem solving, these wee ones are little sponges. This is incredibly exciting and also comes with a massive amount of responsibility for us. This is why we are always learning, taking in the latest research, applying the latest techniques for guiding and encouraging. This career requires professionals with a keen desire to continually stretch themselves for the betterment of those they serve.

8. Adaptable Career and Flexible Environment

After you’ve completed your daycare course, you will quickly learn that there are numerous and flexible opportunities for where and how often you can apply your skills. From early learning centres, childcare facilities and public and high schools to daycare and pre-schools, the environments, and the various schedules you can choose from, are vast and flexible. If you’re looking for a career that can adapt to your life, this is it.

9. Launch Your Own Business

Not only can you choose from, and learn within, various environments, once you’ve gained some experience and feel that confidence to be able to go it alone, you can launch a daycare and run it yourself. This career is shaped by your imagination and can become and evolve to nearly anything you desire. This, coupled with being able to play and create all day with beautiful kiddos, makes this career amazingly ideal.

10. Gain a Diploma in Less Than One Year

A fast-track program, led by industry experts in a small classroom environment, especially one that is accredited by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), such as the one at Anderson College, can get you up to professional speed, applying your skills within a work practicum and graduated within one year. Many students have been right where you are and are now thriving in their ECA careers. But don’t take our word for it; check out Valuable Insights from Anderson’s ECA Students and Grads.
